A Little About the OOC Rules: Empty A Little About the OOC Rules:

Demon: The Fallen is an adult game with adult themes. These themes are dark and will take many different forms. As such, this is an 18+ venue. All players are 18+ regardless of the age of the characters they represent.

We understand that this is not real.

We understand that this is a fantasy setting.

We understand that this game might still trigger OOC reactions to IC content.

However, we don't want to limit the range of play that our players/characters/world engages in. Unpleasant things are likely to happen. Your characters can be the instigators of these unpleasant things, or the victims, or some range between.

To ensure all *players* are safe and in a comfortable environment, however, all scenes that have an adult theme will be labeled as such. If you as a player find yourself uncomfortable with something that is happening to your character, you have ever right to 'fade to black'. The scene will continue on without your input or awareness and staff will either cinematic the scene or represent your character as a temporary NPC. You will be given some vague details on the contents of the scene, but nothing further, and the board will continue on.

Harassment won't be tolerated here either. Generally this is restricted to OOC communications (if two characters hate each other, that has ways of sorting itself out eventually). Reports of abusive behavior will be met with a three strike policy. The first warning gets a 24 hour ban from board activity. A second gets a month ban. A third and your character will be retired and your accounts deleted.

Staff and narrators aren't paid for their time beyond some minor in-game cookies. Please be patient with us. We love telling stories, and we want you to enjoy yourself, but sometimes real life has a way of snagging the wind from our sails. We will try to post when we aren't available so people don't get unrealistic expectations of things.

Time is really tricky to monitor in a forum game. Some manage this by saying their scenes are real-time. This is terrible. Some say that their scenes occur on the date they are started. This makes more sense, but is tricky for scenes that stretch far longer than they should. As a general rule, most scenes should be completed within a week or two of their start date. We understand; sometimes people get chatty, or players get slow to responding and a thing can drag on. We aren't putting a hard limit on how long a scene is allowed to take, but to battle this time dilation, we're saying that the scenes occur on the date they are concluded unless otherwise stated in the scene itself. For scenes with specific time restrictions/ limitations, we strongly recommend keeping them brief.

Experience points will be awarded the first week of a new month. You may spend your xp at any time you wish, however, anything taken past the third dot will be looked at with a high degree of scrutiny. These sorts of mastery / relationships take a great deal of time to grow. They aren't beyond achieving within the game's timeline; you're an eternal demon for christ-sake. But we want at least *some* realism with this. Also, you may never advance a Lore not native to your House beyond the third level, and you will still need a teacher for each of those levels.

Pacts are some of the most potent things in D:tF. Most every human you meet will have a Faith Potential of 2. Some PC's will have more (depending on their backstory). Due to the ambiguous nature of Pacts, we are limiting the number of active Pacts a Demon can maintain to be equal to their permanent Faith rating. Also, if you elect to have the pact also be a font (so you can tap them for Faith later), you will be required to raise your Pact background rating by an appropriate amount. Finding people who will believe in you so completely is tricky, but that font effect takes a high investment from a Fallen to make. Yes, that means that if you offer a pact to a person and don't treat them like a faith pez dispenser, it doesn't cost you XP. But staff will be reviewing those scenes to ensure the necessary steps to ensure that person *actually* believes in you happened.

More to come.

A Little About the OOC Rules: Empty Re: A Little About the OOC Rules:

Forum games offer some unique difficulties when it comes to properly arbitrating rolls, rules, and scene flow. There isn't anything more obnoxious than getting an awesome rhythm with a player and then having to submit a roll-request to staff for some sorta resolution. It's the worst, and understandably terrible. Here is the solution.

1- In an instance where you are dealing with another PC, you may always ping them OOC and ask if they relent to whatever it is you are doing for expediency.

EX: Your Fallen and a Mortal are talking about something. You have a good flow. You decide to hit them with Lamp of Faith to see if they're Fallen. You shoot the player a PM saying 'Hey, this is awesome, I'm turning on X power which allows me to do Y. Would you like me to ask Staff to do the rolls?' Whatever the defending player says is what we go with. If they relent, move on with the scene. If they say 'Yeah.... please have Staff for reasons', be polite and put in the request Smile

2- Per the book, there is an 'automatic success' mechanic. That is to say, whenever you have dice equal to the difficulty of the check, you can assume one success. For scenes where you aren't interacting with a named NPC or another PC, you can use this with a +2 dice modification.
EX: Your Fallen wants to hop a fence and lurk on another PC in the shower. You work out the details for the scene with said PC. As the fence in question isn't a PC or a named NPC, you can look at your Strength + Athletics (+2 board bonus), and if that is 5+ dice, assume you can hop the fence without difficulty.

3- Demon history covers a lot of history. For expediency, you can assume that whatever relevant skill/background you are referencing, the verbiage holds true, and you know the thing.
Ex: A Fallen has Legacy 5 and Occult 4. "You have a wealth of detailed memories of your past" and "You can separate truth from falsehood, and know most of what there is to know" respectively. You don't need to ping staff for most nuanced stuff. That is to say, events as they occurred, major NPCs doing major things, etc and so forth. Likewise, you can safely assume that you know that some of the other supernatural types exist, and maybe some of their weaknesses/strengths and so on. If there's a question, you can always ask staff, but we're going to value the flow of the scene above specific nitty-gritty (unless we find a player abusing this, then we'll talk to that player).

4- Please don't speak for another player in a scene without permission. Likewise, you can always ask staff to arbitrate an IC or OOC conflict.
EX: Fallen A and Fallen B decide to spar. Without wanting to bog down the scene with Staff, they decide to go cinematic and express their relevant dice pools to each other. The player of Fallen B decides that his guy is wwaaayyyy worse than Fallen A and asks for the player to describe how he's been man-handled. What he isn't going to do is post about how he clocks Fallen A and sends him reeling senseless.

5- Anything that is directly PvP, or could intentionally result in character death needs to have the staff run it.

6- In scenes where staff is running things mechanically, we will be running them purely by the tabletop book, excepting instances where published house rules or errata contradict a thing.

Make sense? Questions?
