For future reference, there are NEVER to be PVP (Player Vs Player) rolls made by PC’s (Player Characters), even if the roll is to enact an effect in the world but will directly affect another PC. If you do not agree upon actions OOC and need to roll dice against each other then you HAVE to involve an ST.

Thank you for being awesome, you excitable people you!

Addendum:

We've had some players rolling their own dice.

Sometimes this is OK, sometimes it isn't.

Generally speaking, here are some guidelines for when it's OK to roll your own dice:

1- You aren't attacking something. Any combat (apart from sparing where all players agree non-lethal is the way things are going) must be rolled by staff.

2- Your scene won't affect more than just that scene. If the effect you are trying for has LONG lasting effects, this must be rolled and noted by staff.

3- If you are in a scene with only players and you mediate a roll among yourself. For example: Rex's use of Lamp of Faith. It is generally agreed by players that STs don't need to roll that just to keep the scene moving.

4- The results are more or less irrelevant to long-term board health. For example: Driving somewhere when you aren't being chased. We aren't going to make everyone roll Drive Checks to enter a scene, that's crazy talk.

When it isn't OK to roll your own checks-

1- Anything targeting an NPC. A Narrator or ST is representing those folks, and sometimes they're more than they seem.

2- Any super power that can doesn't target a PC that agreed to let you roll. Example: Rolling Lore of Forge to make your sword badass, or Lore of Patterns to find the Big Plot Thing, or Lore of Paths to guide you to something controlled by an NPC.

3- Checks that are largely background/downtime related. Most of the time these have a sliding scale of difficulty and you won't always know that. Influence especially, but anything that's relating to downtimes needs to be rolled by staff.

Also:

Players can ALWAYS request that Staff roll checks in scenes they are in. They don't need to provide a reason why, it's perfectly acceptable if someone says "I'm going to turn on X or roll a Y, do you mind?" and for you to reply "I'd really rather Staff roll that."

Consent, yo. Consent.
